About
Sara Marugan Oliva
Catalan philologist, teacher, language editor and writer. Eighteen years helping students write with rigour.
Career
I am a Catalan philologist with eighteen years of teaching experience in secondary, high school and adult education, and I also teach at university as an associate lecturer at the University of Barcelona.
Every year I mark and assess official exams — PAU, PAP, M25/M45, C1 and C2 — for the DGPL, CPNL and CIFALC. I know exactly what earns marks and what loses them, and that is what I teach my students: to prepare for the real exam, not an imaginary one.
That experience led to my own registered method, «La teoria de la síl·laba ®», which helps reduce spelling mistakes by starting from the word's smallest unit. With four hours of well-directed work, the results show.
I also write: I am the author of «Ramon Llull com mai te l'han explicat», I have been publishing articles on language and proofreading for over ten years, and I take part in workshops, book fairs and radio programmes.
And a personal note: before devoting myself to language, I was a high-performance fencer. The discipline, persistence and strategy a fencing piste demands are exactly what I bring to teaching. Only the weapon has changed: now it is the word.

Mentoria UAB · Autonomous University of Barcelona
UAB mentor
The UAB chose me as a mentor for its Mentoria UAB programme, the Alumni UAB initiative that guides final-year students into their professional careers.
Becoming a mentor is not automatic: it requires prior selection, and the mentors include prestigious scientists and professionals. Having a public university trust you to guide its students is one of the endorsements I value most.
As a mentor, I help students discover their potential, understand the job market and shape their career plan — the same personalised guidance I bring to my Catalan classes every day.
The method
«La teoria de la síl·laba ®» is a visual, systematic method to master syllable division, accentuation and the most common spelling mistakes. Designed for secondary and high-school students, civil-service candidates and adults preparing the C1 or C2 exams.
