Back to studying. I have been selected for “Formem lectors competents: repensar la pràctica lectora a l'aula i al centre” (Training competent readers: rethinking reading practice in the classroom and the school), a university micro-credential from the Institute of Education Sciences (ICE) of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, run with the Catalan Department of Education and Vocational Training. There are 25 places for primary and secondary language teachers, and one of them is mine.
The course
- From 14 October 2026 to 28 February 2027, on Wednesday afternoons plus one Saturday morning.
- 3 ECTS credits: 27 hours of classes and 48 hours of independent work.
- Blended: most sessions in person at the Faculty of Education on the Bellaterra campus; the rest online.
- Led by Mireia Manresa and Carme Durán, from the Department of Language, Literature and Social Science Education.
- For me it is free of charge: the Department of Education covers it as part of its teacher training plan.
What we will learn
How reading is learnt today and how to read the evidence in the classroom: analysing real reading situations, choosing texts, designing activities and assessing reading comprehension. All of it through case studies, students' work and classroom videos, with one clear aim: that those of us taking part become reading leads in our schools.
Why
I have been teaching Catalan for more than eighteen years, and every year I see that reading comprehension is where everything is decided: literature, grammar and the university entrance marks. This year I want to look at it again through the lens of language teaching research, and bring it back to my classroom.
I am very proud to be part of it. If you are a teacher and want to know more, here is the ICE news item: uab.cat/ca/ice/noticies/20260708/noticia-microcredencials
